The letters spell out, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in seeing with new eyes. Proust.”
This quote, from French writer Marcel Proust, is also quilted in English and French into the squares that are the spaces in between the words.
Si Se Puede

Si Se Puede - 20" x 20" 2008 $300
This art quilt reads: “Si Se Puede”, Spanish for “yes we can.”
“Si se puede” is the motto of the United Farm Workers. Cesar Chavez and UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta came up with the slogan in 1972, during Chavez’s 25 day fast in Phoenix, Arizona. This phrase has been widely adapted by other labor unions and civil rights organizations, including the 2006 U.S. Immigration reform protests which drew over one million people to a demonstration here in Los Angeles.
Materials: dupioni silks, cottons, cotton batting and backing.
Techniques: reverse applique, machine piecing, hand guided machine quilting.
