Nicholas Winter's Tallit: Restoration of 1885 Viennese family heirloom tallit. - 22" x 72" 2009

This over 100 year old tallit was unstable, composed of deteriorating silk. The reconstruction of this family heirloom consisted of the following: the original black stripes and woven gold metal Atarah were cleaned, stabilized and reconditioned, then hand sewn to a new silk crepe background. The fringe was cleaned and re-woven. Two of the original tzit tzit hole squares were reconditioned, and two new ones added.
The family chose to re-tie the original tzit tzit, in accordance with Talmudic and Rabbinic Law.
