SEEING WITH NEW EYES
“The true voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in seeing with new eyes.” by Marcel Proust
We travel to explore, to see new things, to relax, to be shaken out of our routine, to search for something, to learn about the world and ourselves, to escape, and to experience other cultures.
Each place we go to is unique, with it’s own light and colors. In this workshop, you will create a fiber art piece that reflects your own personal experience of this medieval village near the ancient city of Sulmona in Italy.
The process of making art enables you to see with new eyes the world around you. Make either a literal or an abstract art quilt, using language and color techniques to express your personal vision. Beginners and experts are all welcome to come, have fun, and grow.
Deadline for registration for Connie's class is: 9th May 2012
Price: Normally $US2250.00. But, with a discount of $255.00 it is now $US1995.00 two people to a room. All accommodations include 7 nights lodging and 5-day workshop. This offer expires 2 weeks prior to class registration date!

CREATE YOUR VERY OWN TALLIT (Jewish Prayer Shawl)
2 Days
Do you have a friend or relative who is about to become bar or bat mitzvah? Or would you like to make a jewish prayer shawl for yourself or a loved one? We’ve all seen the traditional white with blue stripes woven tallit, and the painted silk ones from Israel. They are beautiful, but here’s your chance to learn how to create a unique and distinctive tallit of your very own, using quilting and surface design techniques.
In this class, you will learn how to design and make a tallit in accordance with Talmudic and Rabbinic Law. Create your own design, sew the atarah (name band), and tie the tzitzi (prayer fringes). I will show you everything you need to know in order to complete your very own unique design. All levels of experience are encouraged!
I will be teaching this class at Temple Sinai of Glendale on Feb 22 and Mar 22, 2009. If you are interested in joining us, please see details under News tab on this website, or contact me at crohman1@yahoo.com

Introduction to Design Workshop
2 Days
In this class, I share my knowledge of design and technique to help participants realize their own ideas. We discuss the principles of composition, color, and texture as used in design. We start by reviewing the basics: line, form, shape, color, composition, negative/positive space, design approaches, and how to analyze what is working and what is not working with a piece. Each student will design and construct a sample wall hanging using techniques taught in class.

COLOR Workshop
1 Day
Take this fun class to learn the language and theory of color. Knowledge of how colors interact will help enhance your fiber art. No sewing during the workshop, just information and exercises with fabric.

Fabric Collage Class
1/2 Day
Fabric collage with rough edges is a simple and exciting process. This class will free you to do and try things you thought you couldn’t do with fabric. Students will complete a fabric collage of a fish, or of any other image you choose. Come and have fun with your fabric scraps!

Silk Dyeing with Colorhue Dyes, The Easy Way
1/2 Day
Learn how to use the new Colorhue dyes on luxurious silks. No chemicals or steam setting needed. These new non-toxic dyes are quick and easy to use. Learn easy silk dyeing techniques, including scrunch dyeing, baggie dyeing, shibori folding and pleating, and overdyeing.

Dyeing Cottons with Procion MX Dyes
1/2 Day
Enter the wonderful world of color and learn to use Procion MX dyes. It’s easier than you think, and you will go home with 24 half yard pieces of beautiful mottled hand dyed cottons. In the class, we will dye a 24 step rainbow. The process will continue at home where the dyed fabric will cure overnight in canning jars and the students will rinse and dry the fabrics.
